Fear. Seeing it. Moving it!
The word fear surfaces often in my practice. It is one of the truest and honest emotions that all of us have felt at one time or another.
Fear has been known to literally stop many from growing as an individual, loving themselves and others, moving forward with their dreams, action plans and / or life. Fear is a powerful emotion. It can paralyze you. It can result in numerous missed opportunities both in life and love.
What is fear? Merriam-Webster defines fear as:
1a : an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger (1) : an instance of this emotion (2) : a state marked by this emotion
2: anxious concern : solicitude
Fear is unpleasant and known to provoke our other paralyzing friend - anxiety.
I have been told, have seen and experienced that individuals with anxiety find their anxiety rises when they begin to see, feel and hear fear. Why does anxiety show up you ask? Anxiety is a result of our minds moving too far into the future. When you move into the future - you suddenly realize you have no idea how it will all turn out - you have no control.
With that said for some the lack of control can be exhilarating and motivating, but for others in can be anxiety and fear inducing. Fear can seep into the already cracked lines of uncertainty and bust it open.
The good news is that fear can be conquered. It can be conquered by action. When you are stuck in the emotion of fear you have no control. However, with action you take control and thus overcoming the paralyzing fear.
Action conquers fear!
Create an environment that is safe and receptive.
Be aware of your surroundings and the goals you are trying to attain.
Practice focus.
Sit Still.
Be Silent.
Let it Settle.
The three S's for short.
If fear is still lingering and you are unsure what to do...
STOP
Stop. Take a deep belly breath. Observe and honor the emotion and thoughts you are having. Proceed with the opposite rule - replace the negative belief by thinking about it and plan your action!
Don’t let fear determine your present and future. Try stepping outside your own box of comfort and see the potential that can be your reality once you conquer fear!
I will close with a few of my favorite quotes often used as mantras:
If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try – Seth Godin
Everything you have ever wanted is sitting on the other side of fear –
George Addair
The only way out is through – Robert Frost
I see you fear. I am moving you fear. I have something better on the other side - Rebecca Stiemens, LCSW
